Fall really is my favorite time of year. I love the crisp air. I love the colors that mother nature has on display and I love getting organized. Maybe it is because I live in the upper Midwest where we often have to hunker down for winter. It is like a nesting urge takes over. There are things that I want to get done and taken care of before the snow flies and I realize that I bet other people feel the same way.
So if you want a Functional Fabulous Fall join in on the organizing challenge that I have in store for you for the next 5 weeks. If you complete the challenges, make a comment on facebook on in the comment section of my blog. Each time you comment you will be entered to win 1 hour of my services. If you live within 10 miles of Fargo, ND I will come to your home. If you are the winner and live out of the area we will chat via Skype or on the phone about organizing. Want extra chances of winning, share my blog and facebook page with your friends and family and tell me that you did it.
Kitchen: Set the timer for 5 minutes and find at least 10 things that you no longer need in your kitchen. This could be cook books, kitchen utensils that have duplicates, unopened canned goods that you will never use, broken or damaged dishes. Either donate the items if they are in good shape or discard. You may want to grab a box to gather all of the donated items as we go through the weeks. While you start to grab 10 things you may be inspired to keep going and do the whole kitchen. If you want to do that, take one drawer or cabinet at a time. Maybe one a day until it is done. This is not part of the homework however, just extra credit. When you are all done, leave a comment as to how many items you discarded!
Now collect 10 recipes that your family would like to eat this fall that you make in the slow cooker. These are going to be your go to recipes this fall so that you can have dinner ready when you get home after a long day. Who doesn’t love having the house smell great when you walk in the door? I love using the slow cooker so much that I don’t even miss the grill! Do you have a great one that your family loves? Leave it in the comment section. Do you have a website or a link that has slow cooker recipes? Leave it in the comment section.
Here is one to get you started as I made this last night. My kids love it. To make it extra special, I toast the buns with a littler butter before putting the meat in it. You could also top with a piece of cheese.
French Dip Sandwiches

- 1 can beef consomme
- 1 can water
- 1 pkg Italian dressing mix (dry)
- 1 pkg au jus mix (dry)
Place all ingredients in a slow cooker and cook all day (8-10 hours) on low. Pull meat apart and place on hoagie buns and dip in juice
