Organize Your Office

During the month of January, Professional Organizers from all over the world celebrate “GO Month”, or more commonly called, get organized month.  January is a great time to focus on starting that new way to live your life.  January is the time that we make those New Year’s Resolutions.  Our national organization, called NAPO encourages its members to go out in the community and give back.  I have accepted the challenge and as the only member of NAPO from my state, I have ventured out on my own.

The first thing I did was I contacted a local non-profit and committed to helping their Director.  He was all hands on board and worked very hard beside me as we churned out a more productive work space for him.  Now he can enter his office and find peace and not chaos.  So many people have offices that are out of control and you wonder how does it get that way.  The answer is easy, not enough time!  People in the work force are expected to do more in less time and often the tasks of getting organized are left by the wayside.  But what you don’t realize is that if you spend the time to get the systems in place and spend just a few minutes every day putting everything away, you will save so much time in the long run.  What also happens that if your office is more organized, you will save money as well.  You won’t wate time looking for lost items (your time has value to it).  You also won’t loose items that need to be replaced.

Here are the before and after pictures.  I will post pictures of the other area we worked on within the next week.  Special thanks to my client for letting me take the pictures and sharing them with you.  This is a typical office that I work on, so this is nothing out of the ordinary.  I respect my client’s privacy but I also appreciate when they understand that taking pictures can help so many other people escape the chaos and live a more organized life.

Each area of the desk now has a set purpose.  Every item has a place.  We even moved some pictures around to make it more welcoming!  My favorite item we added is he now has a basket that he places his items in that need to go back to his home.  Once the basket is full…..home it goes.

If you would like to learn more about office organizing, I am giving a presentation on January 26 from 12:00 to 1:00 in Fargo, North Dakota.  I have a handful of spots left, please email at if you would like to attend.
